Will the ACUITY short throw adapter fit your 10th Gen Civic or Accord? Check exact years, trims, the Type R exclusion, and what 25% less throw feels like.
The fitment answer comes before the feel
Before you think about throw reduction, confirm your car is listed. The ACUITY Short Throw Adapter (SKU 1923) fits 2016–2021 Honda Civic 10th Gen manual-transmission models and 2018–2022 Accord 10th Gen manual-transmission models. It is not recommended for the Civic Type R (FK8) because the shifter cable angle becomes excessive when the two are used together.
That leaves a clear group: Civic Sport, Si, and other manual 10th Gen trims, plus manual 10th Gen Accord Sport and similar. If your car is an automatic or CVT, this part does not apply. If you drive a Type R, stop here—this adapter is not for you.
Fitment and contents at a glance
- Short Throw Adapter for the 10th Civic/10th Accord: Fits 2016–2021 Honda Civic (10th Gen, MT only) and 2018–2022 Accord (10th Gen, MT only). These are the exact year ranges and transmission requirements; anything outside them is not confirmed to fit.

Short Throw Adapter for the 10th Civic/10th Accord - Short Throw Adapter for the 10th Civic/10th Accord: Not recommended for the Civic Type R (FK8) shifter due to excessive shifter cable angle when used together. Type R owners should not buy this adapter; the cable angle issue is specific to that shifter.
- Short Throw Adapter for the 10th Civic/10th Accord: Each kit includes the short throw adapter, a grease packet, and an alcohol wipe. You get the cleaning and lubrication supplies needed for installation, so no extra trip to the parts store.
What 25% less throw actually feels like
ACUITY rates the reduction at approximately 25% overall. On Civic Sport models it is about 26% from stock; on Civic Si about 24%; on Accord Sport about 25%. In practice, that means the OEM Sport throw is roughly 35% longer than it will be after installation, the Si throw about 32% longer, and the Accord Sport throw about 34% longer. The adapter also reduces cable play by the same proportion because it works at the shifter rather than at the transmission.
The trade-off is a stiffer, more mechanical feel. That is the point—shorter, firmer throws with less slop—but it is not a softness upgrade. If you want a lighter stock feel, this is the wrong part.
Installation realities to plan for
- Clean and re-grease the spherical joint: Use the supplied alcohol wipe and grease packet before installation. Skipping this step will not cause problems other than a possible audible click during shifts into even gears.
- Expect a slight click into even gears and reverse: Shifter-mounted short-throw adapters, regardless of brand, tend to cause a slight click noise when engaging even gears and reverse. This is primarily true of the 10th Gen Civics; it is less noticeable on 10th Gen Accords.
- Follow the official install guide: ACUITY provides install guide PDFs and videos. Use them rather than improvising, especially for the clamping nuts that keep the adapter affixed.
Construction and clamping
- Short Throw Adapter for the 10th Civic/10th Accord: Turned and milled from 300 series stainless steel, making it strong and extremely corrosion resistant. Stainless steel holds up to heat and moisture in the shifter area, and the material is rigid enough to resist flex.
- Short Throw Adapter for the 10th Civic/10th Accord: Unique grip design uses special nuts to stay affixed, even with a modest amount of torque. The clamping design is what keeps the adapter from slipping on the shifter, so you do not need to over-torque it.
Where this adapter sits in a shifter upgrade path
ACUITY notes this adapter pairs well with its Shifter Base Bushings (1914), Shifter Centering Spring Upgrade (1918), and Shifter Rocker Upgrade (1922). If your goal is reducing play and tightening the feel, those parts address different links in the chain. The short throw adapter changes the throw length and cable play; bushings and springs change centering and compliance. You can start with the adapter alone, but if you already have shifter slop, the combination is worth considering.
At USD 59.86 (catalog comparison price USD 82.00), it is a relatively low-cost entry into a shorter, stiffer shift. The trade-off is that it does not change the shifter’s height or knob position, and it does not eliminate all cable play—it reduces it proportionally.
Decision rules for buying
- Buy it if: You own a 2016–2021 Civic manual (Sport, Si, or other non-Type R) or a 2018–2022 Accord manual, and you want a shorter, firmer throw without changing the shifter itself.
- Skip it if: You drive a Civic Type R (FK8), an automatic/CVT, or a model outside the listed years. Also skip it if you dislike any added mechanical noise—the even-gear click is a known characteristic.
- Consider the supporting parts if: You already have noticeable shifter play or vague centering; the adapter reduces throw and cable play but does not replace bushings or springs.
